Canada and Saskatchewan announce funding for 15 new infrastructure projects

Regina to receive funding for three new wastewater projects
 
Regina, Saskatchewan – The MP for Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre, Tom Lukiwski, along with the Honourable Bill Hutchinson, Minister of First Nations and Métis Relations, and Regina City Councillor Louis Browne, on behalf of Mayor Pat Fiacco, today announced funding for 15 new infrastructure projects across Saskatchewan. These projects will benefit from nearly $45.8 million in funding from the federal, provincial and municipal governments.  Federal funding represents over $19.8 million under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
 
"This investment is an example of action that our Government is taking to create jobs and contribute to Saskatchewan’s long-term economic growth,” said MP Lukiwski.  “Our Government is focused on implementing the second phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. At the same time, we will also look ahead at future challenges, which include reducing the deficit once our economy is fully recovered and building a strong foundation for job creation and our economic future.”
 
"This announcement today again shows our commitment to continue building on our economic momentum in Saskatchewan," Minister Hutchinson said on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "These major projects show that Regina and Saskatchewan are moving forward."
 
"Like many municipalities across Canada, Regina's infrastructure needs investment far beyond what we can provide on our own. The City of Regina is very pleased to collaborate with our Federal and Provincial partners to address this issue," Councillor Browne said on behalf of Mayor Fiacco. "Today's announcement will help to ensure a vibrant, attractive and sustainable city for our citizens."
 
Of the 15 new projects announced today, Regina will be receiving three new water/wastewater infrastructure projects worth $9.9 million:

• McCarthy Pump Station Upgrades
• Wastewater Treatment Plant Forcemain
• Wastewater Treatment Plant new waterline

 
The federal contribution to the projects comes from the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, which provides funding to provincial, territorial and municipal construction-ready infrastructure projects that can be completed by March 31, 2011.
