Regina, SK – Communities across Saskatchewan will benefit from a federal-provincial partnership to support infrastructure projects and initiatives across the province that will help stimulate the economy and create jobs. Today funding was announced for infrastructure initiatives under the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund, the second intake of the Communities Component and the new Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. Tom Lukiwski, MP for Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre confirmed that the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have set aside $28,180,788 in funding to support $73,767,350 of investment into the community of Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre. “Our Government is making smart investments that will inject additional capital into our economy and keep people working during these tough economic times while improving Saskatchewan’s infrastructure,” said Lukiwski. “This infrastructure will contribute to our quality of life, as well as help to boost our regional economy now and for years to come.” The federal and provincial governments are accelerating infrastructure spending across Saskatchewan providing funding to provincial and municipal construction-ready projects. Including the past week, a total of 124 projects in Saskatchewan will receive federal funding worth $173.9 million. With provincial and municipal contributions included, the overall investment grows to $423.1 million. Projects being funded include several highway and local roads improvements, and wastewater initiatives in many communities across the province Under its Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada is allocating $12 billion to infrastructure projects across the country. This is further complemented by an earlier commitment of $33 billion to infrastructure. Canada and Saskatchewan are working together to create jobs and boost the economy, while making significant investments that help communities improve their infrastructure. Both governments have agreed to work together to ensure that these funds are delivered quickly and efficiently. |
